Life Magic

One More Mile

Crystal Stafford, Deadvlei, Namibia

This goal of mine, to post a photo a day for a year, is kind of like running a marathon. I have never actually run a marathon, but I ran a half marathon, and I did an Olympic distance triathlon. Endurance training taught me A LOT about life, or should I say, about how to LIVE life. You just keep going. When you want to do something profound, when you want to stand out, to rise above, to be one of those people that doesn’t fall down and get passed over, when you want to live a life that is extraordinary, the best piece of advice for how to do it: Just keep going, no matter what, and you will get there. Keep logging your miles and you will reach your goal. It’s that simple. And don’t ever let ANYONE talk you down, especially yourself. I am the only person that really ever tries to talk myself down.

“Your photos suck.”

“Why are you doing this?”

“What’s the point?”

“This is pointless.”

But this is something I love, and I want it to become something more someday, like maybe an extraordinary life. So I am ignoring the voices, putting in the extra hours, pushing myself forward even when I am so tired and want to sleep, to log one more mile. And then the next.

This photo is my one more mile.
