Bora Bora

Crystal Stafford,

There is a reason so many choose Bora Bora for their honeymoon. It’s magical. This is a photo I took from the beach bar at the Intercontinental hotel. One of my favorite things about Bora Bora, and French Polynesia as a whole, is that they are very connected to the sea life. In Bora Bora you can snorkel out from your hotel and see friendly sharks and rays that are so accustomed to human contact that you can just swim right up and pet them. Without losing an arm I might add. There is a lot of controversy about petting wild animals, but sharks are so misunderstood and many species are critically endangered. I think it is a really good thing for people to get close to them and learn that they aren’t the savage beasts that films like Jaws portray. French Polynesia is one place where this can easily be done.
