Panama: Islands in a Dream

panama, crystal stafford

I never really wanted to go to Panama. Well, I want to go EVERYWHERE. But Panama was definitely not at the top of my list. Not until a few things changed in my life. First, I moved to Costa Rica. Second, I had a baby. Third, I got married.

I wanted a REAL honeymoon. Without the child that I adore beyond all measure. So I looked at flights. What country could I visit fairly easily from Nosara, Costa Rica? And for cheap.

World Travelers Really Shouldn’t Live in Nosara, Costa Rica

To leave the country inexpensively we had to drive 4.5 hours to San Jose. From there, it was only a 1.5-hour flight but it was early in the morning. We had to leave the night before and stay in a hotel in San Jose. So all-in-all, it still took about 24 hours to get there.

I read about the sailing adventures available in the San Blas Islands so by the time we actually booked our travel I was very excited to travel there. Panama City is an ok place to visit. But a few hours north is where the real magic of Panama is.

The San Blas Islands extend out from the northern coast of Panama and are made of 365 tiny islands that speckle the bright, starfish-studded, turquoise blue waters. It is a dream destination for sailors. Not only because there are so many deserted, untouched islands to explore, but also because there is always wind! Well, maybe not always but we had wind the entire time we were there.

The Feature Photo

I really like this photo because it is not your typical HDR shot. It is subtle. I loaded the brackets into Aurora HDR and voila, there it was. No tinkering needed. It took me right back to that island in a dream.
